Whether you’re single or taken this Valentine’s you don’t have to spend the day filled with high expectations, disappointments or bitterness. It is a day focused on love and you can never have too much of that.
So tell Hallmark to shove it and spend the day thinking about what you can do for someone else to make their day a little bit better.
There are plenty of ways to spread some cheer this Valentine’s Day (or any other day for that matter). Not only will you be making others smile but you’ll feel pretty good about yourself in the process.
For instance, when you stop in for your daily cup of coffee pay for the person behind you. The unexpected gift is sure to brighten some one’s day.
Occasionally, I like to buy a $25 gift card when I’m at Starbucks and have the barista use it for future orders until it’s empty.
One time, I later found out that a stranger added an additional $25 to the card in order to keep the surprise going!
If you have to ride through a toll pay for the person behind you or when you go to a restaurant leave your waitress a generous tip right before letting the manager know how excellent his or her service was.
So far all of these suggestions involve money, which is getting tighter these days, but there are many opportunities throughout the day to make someone’s day a little better that are completely free.
When you’re walking down the street be sure to look people in the eye and give them a genuine smile. A good mood can be infectious.
Give someone a compliment on their impeccable style or tell a mother how well-behaved her children are (only if it’s true of course).
Send your friends and family an instant message telling them how special they are to you or simply wish them a good day.
The point is to give someone a pleasant surprise. You don’t know what that person may be going through that day and your small gesture may make a big difference.
The fun thing about showing some love is that you can be be creative and spontaneous about how you choose to do so.
Happy Valentines Day!!!
